Pace Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 13, 2026

Pace is a Chrome new-tab extension that helps you plan tasks, focus, and stay aware of your GitHub work. This policy explains what data Pace uses and how.

Data Pace Collects and How It's Used

Google Account (Sign-in)
Pace uses Google Sign-In to authenticate you. Pace receives your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. This information is used only to personalize your dashboard greeting and identify your account. Pace does not access your Gmail, Drive, or any other Google data.

GitHub Account (Optional)
If you choose to connect GitHub, Pace uses GitHub's device authorization flow to request read access to your pull requests, issues, and public profile information. Pace displays this activity in your dashboard so you can see your open work at a glance. Pace never reads, stores, or has access to your repository code. Your GitHub access token is stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local) and expires automatically after 8 hours. You can disconnect GitHub at any time from Settings, independently of signing out of Pace entirely.

Approximate Location & Weather
Pace estimates your city-level location using your IP address (via ipwho.is, with freeipapi.com as a fallback) to show local weather conditions. Pace does not use precise GPS location, and does not request Chrome's device geolocation permission. Weather data is fetched through Pace's own proxy server, which keeps the underlying weather API key private; the proxy does not log or store your location.

Background Colors
Pace fetches color palettes from the ColourLovers API to generate the ambient dashboard background. No personal information is sent with these requests.

Tasks, Focus Sessions, and Settings
Your tasks, focus session history, and preferences (time format, greeting visibility, temperature units, etc.) are stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage. This data is not transmitted to or stored on any Pace server.

Data Sharing

Pace does not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties. Data is used solely to provide Pace's core functionality (dashboard personalization, GitHub activity display, weather display).
